The Big Mitten Energy Center is a proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that will store electricity when demand is low and deliver it back to the grid when demand is high, helping keep power reliable and affordable across Michigan. Located in Colfax Township, the project will use a small, carefully designed site to deliver major reliability benefits for homes, farms, and local businesses. It operates with no emissions, no water use, and is designed for full decommissioning and site restoration at the end of its lifespan.
